Minutes Dec 6, 2017

OPEN: 9:00am

INVOCATION: Pastor Greg Thorn

INTRODUCTIONS: 15 present

MINUTES: Oct 4, and Nov 6 regular meeting minutes approved

GUEST SPEAKER: Roni - Executive Director with Economic Alliance with a very nice detailed presentation on how they help small businesses and what they offer. Asking for the Chambers help with zoom prospector in finding absentee owners of empty stores in their areas. She left brochures and information for everyone to check out. Christy  O’Neil the Business Resource Person for Work Source is planning on coming to next month’s meeting.

TREASURER REPORT: Chris Majors- Savings-10,024.59 Checking 4821.58

CITY REPORT: Lee Webster- The trees are trimmed at the cove and the carver wanted to start this Fall on the trees but then it turned winter and plans to start in the spring.  The Playground money is in now waiting on final decisions and will start in the spring. Plans to upgrade the restrooms and the PUD is planning on putting in new restrooms at the cove. Airport project with new runway lights and updated electrical work. Okanogan Housing Authority has acquired the Brewster Housing authority.

Cops and Kids Winter Celebration Event at the Boys and Girls Club is the 16th   1 to 4 pm. Santa will be there the whole day. Sled safety program giving away 20 sleds. Christmas shop and manger mall .Nattalie is trying to get someone to run the manger mall. Cocoa and cookies. Boys and girls club doing a Carnival and games and craft table and lots of other fun things.. Fire Dept has list of names for people that need help and there are 2 boxes one at the Brewster market place and one at the Brewster Drug hoping to hand out presents before Christmas.

BUSINESS:  Vacation land and info book Omak Chronicle- Pam- for the Vactionland phamlet it was decided at the Nov meeting that the Chamber will go in with the City and the Salmon Derby to take the back page. Chris Majors was appointed in charge of the design. The Chamber is putting in $1000.00, the Salmon Derby -$800.00 and the city $1200.00. Chris Majors is doing the design. 60k printed ,10k stay county wide , and 50k go down the I-5 corridor and Canada. In hotels motels and service stations etc.

INFO BOOK Also the Chamber is buying a page in the Chronicles INFO book, which has one full page open to the Chamber and another for the Chambers businesses to add their information at $11.00 per business. The  Chamber is going to pay for the businesses using the annual fees, making it part of the package for joining the Chamber. Dead line for getting the information to the Chronicle is Dec 27.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

LAS POSADAS: Martin- Everything is coming along and the tamales are ordered and some donations are coming in with about $700.00 received so far with hope of getting enough to cover the costs. Martin figures $1,500.00 will cover everything. 

Starting at La Milpa and going up Main Street ending at the INN at the Armory. They are buying 1000 tamales and will have piñatas and caroling. There are already 5 businesses that are on board and have donated. Martin is asking churches if they want to set up a stage and do the reenactment of Christmas.

Martin plans on having fire pits. Lee said that we should put in an event application it is easy and if there is a lot of people show up it is necessary.

Anna is working on a Banner saying the Chamber is sponsoring along with the businesses.

Some of the donated money will be used for radio advertisement, and we are advertising in papers and other media.

Motion was made to donate to the Las Posadas for $300.00, seconded and approved.

Kiwanis asked for donations for their scholarships, Motion to donate $25.00 seconded and approved.

Membership drive in Jan. those who paid in Sep or later in 2017 they are already paid for 2018.

 Anna is working on getting decals or signs for businesses that say you belong to the chamber.

 Monthly Business Meet-ups- Asking for businesses to open their doors to other business after hours.

 Anna said Coldwell Banker will do Jan. at her office. 

Dan Webster says he will do Feb.

Sweet T’s will host one when it warms up! 

Voting for new Officers- ballets were passed out and handed back in and with the ones that were emailed in were tallied by Pastor Greg

PRESIDENT- Martin Hurtado, SECRETARY- Mike Mauk, TREASURER-Leslie McNamara, DIRECTOR- Dan

Webster, DIRECTOR-Chris Majors. DIRECTOR-Manny Hurtado 

Senior center is hosting a get together for The Peckhams who are retiring from the center after volunteering for 20 years and they are honoring  them Dec 28- 12:30 after lunch everyone is invited! Ice Cream and cake will be served.

Senior center is having a Christmas Giving Tree and they selected a family, she is a single mother with 4 young children2 are school age and 2 are toddlers. Those that want to help can go to the center and take a card from the tree sign it and return it with a gift by Thursday Dec21. The gifts will be delivered Dec22.They are also providing a Christmas dinner and donations are welcome for the food basket as well.
